Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
We will keep our FAQs regularly updated. These were last updated on 14th October 2026.
Work currently happening on Godfrey Road
What work is happening now on Godfrey Road?
We have recently completed an essential project at the A&E entrance, which required us to put temporary traffic lights in place. Thank you to residents for your patience and understanding during this time.
We began the next phase of the project with Laing O’Rourke on Monday, 12th October to widen the Women’s and Children’s entrance, and the former Learning Centre car park exit to create the ambulance entrance for the new Emergency Department. This will ensure that large vehicles will be able to enter the site promptly and safely during the construction phase, minimising the time they spend on Godfrey Road.
This work will take around six weeks to complete and is due to finish in late November. We have been working closely with Calderdale Council and have agreed robust plans with them for the management of traffic during this phase, including the use of temporary traffic lights, and a temporary road closure.
What should we expect in the next few weeks?
Following the initial works, Laing O’Rourke will take delivery of some large equipment. There may be short periods of time during this week where large vehicles need to stop on Godfrey Road as they turn into the hospital site but there will be traffic management arrangements in place to do this as quickly and safely as possible.
From 26 October for two weeks: There will be a temporary road closure in place adjacent to the Women’s & Children’s car park works for two weeks to allow some drainage work to take place on the road. These works have been planned to be undertaken following the opening of the new multistorey car park to minimise the risk of congestion, with diversions in place, and residents still having vehicle access to their properties.
Will buses still operate?
The buses will still operate as usual; however, the bus stops at lower Godfrey Road will be temporarily suspended. You will be able to see the temporary roadside signage identifying where you should wait for the bus. If you are unsure, please speak to one of the team on site or contact the Laing O’Rourke team directly via our switchboard - 01422 357171.
Will the work be noisy?
There will be short periods of time when you may hear increased noise due to the drainage works at the end of October and early November. This will be kept to a minimum wherever practicable.
Can I still park?
Access to driveways will be maintained and the majority of on street resident parking will be available throughout. There will be a short period of time where a small area of resident parking will be suspended to allow the essential drainage works to be completed. The neighbours directly behind these areas have been sent a separate letter inviting them to contact us for a discussion. We will endeavour to work with residents to manage any impacts that this may have.
Will my bins still get collected?
Yes, we have worked closely with Calderdale Council to confirm that all public services on Godfrey Road will continue. You can continue to put your bins out as usual.
What are the working hours?
The working hours for the work on Godfrey Road are Monday to Friday, 8am – 6pm.
Who do I contact if I have an issue?
If you need to raise an issue with any of the work taking place, please contact the CRH Switchboard who will put you in touch with the right team - 01422 357171.

When is the multi-storey car park opening?
The multi-storey car park is close to opening and we will provide updates on our social media, website and via our residents’ email service as soon as we have a confirmed date. The car park will mean there are around 800 spaces for patients, visitors and colleagues across CRH. We have invited hospital colleagues to reinstate their parking permits and have had good uptake, suggesting that staff intend to return to parking on-site.
We have installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) across the site which mirrors the arrangements we have at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The car park will not have entry and exit barriers, and this will allow the smooth flow of traffic into the car park from the main road. Further information about car parking at CRH is available on the main CHFT website.
During construction
Where will construction workers park?
Laing O’Rourke have put arrangements in place for an off-site park and ride facility which will offer excellent parking facilities for contractors working on the next stage of the project.
Taxis keep dropping off on Godfrey Road – can anything be done?
Whilst there are designated drop off spaces for taxis on the hospital site, residents have informed us that there are still people being dropped off on Godfrey Road and this can occasionally cause traffic congestion.
We have worked with Calderdale Council to write to taxi and private hire companies and reminded them to use the designated area via the Dudwell Lane entrance.
When the main hospital building entrance off Dryclough Lane reopens, we will contact taxi and private hire companies and redirect this traffic back to the main entrance. This will help to alleviate traffic congestion on Godfrey Road and improve our patients’ experiences of visiting the hospital.
Can you stop people from congregating outside my house?
Whilst we do ask patients and visitors to be considerate of local residents it is unfortunately very difficult to prevent the public from standing on the roadside. We will continue to share messages asking people to think about alternative waiting locations such as using the designated pick-up spots on our site.
Laing O’Rourke are in the process of constructing a welfare facility for construction workers to use during the next phase of the project. This is situated on the A&E car park and will provide a range of welfare facilities including a restaurant and break area. We will remind people to be considerate towards our neighbours as part of the colleague induction process
What will you do about deliveries to the hospital?
Usual hospital deliveries will continue to use the Dudwell Lane Hospital Service Entrance. We have a well-established logistics programme and good relationships with our suppliers who continue to be kept up to date on the latest changes in and around the site.
What route will construction traffic take?
Laing O’Rourke have worked closely with colleagues in the council’s Highways department to identify the safest and least disruptive routes for construction traffic. Construction traffic will enter and exit the site via Dudwell Lane. A small number of deliveries will require special agreements due to their size. We will let residents know if there are any occasions where it may impact them.
What environmental considerations are in place?
The Trust and Laing O’Rourke take our responsibilities to the environment very seriously and have robust plans in place to respect and protect our hospital grounds, biodiversity and neighbouring area.
There are several workstreams in the project which focus on ensuring we are managing our impacts on the environment – from waste removal and recycling to dust management, vehicle movement and logistics, and energy use to name a few. We will be happy to share more information on matters that interest residents as the programme progresses.

How will you keep in touch with residents?
We have been undertaking walk rounds to visit residents on Godfrey Road and discuss any concerns or share feedback on the activity that’s been happening around the site. As we move to the next phase of the project, we will be holding regular planned community events where residents can join us and the team from Laing O’Rourke to hear about upcoming activities.
The first of these events will be held on Thursday, 12th November, more information will be shared in the next few weeks.
