Welcome to Foundations for our Future

Our long-term plan to transform our hospital and community services in Calderdale and Huddersfield

This investment will transform our services, providing high quality, compassionate care to our patients, whilst improving the experience of our staff in line with our One Culture of Care.

Our plan is our future. It will deliver care closer to home in the community, supported by sustainable and innovative healthcare in our two hospitals. By 2029, both hospitals will have 24/7 consultant led A&E services, with our planned care located in Huddersfield and our unplanned (acute) services in Calderdale.

We have a plan to do things differently, a plan which will build resilience by delivering more services in the community, supported by sustainable healthcare in our two hospitals, which will both have an A&E with our planned care located in Huddersfield and our unplanned (acute) services in Calderdale.

The economic ripple effect of this significant investment cannot be overstated and will boost local spending, enabling new jobs and skills development in construction and associated trades, apprenticeships for younger people, and opportunities in digital technologies.

We recognise the importance of addressing the climate emergency and so we are committed to ensuring “green” considerations are key to all our planning. We are working with partners to encourage more sustainable travel solutions and to reduce the need for people to travel for care where possible. We are also installing electric charging points at our parking facilities for people who do need to use a car.

So, as I said, exciting times ahead for us all, to achieve the best in healthcare right here in our local communities.

It’s a transformation journey ahead for us all, patients and their families, colleagues  and partners too, and I look forward to working with you all to deliver our shared long term ambitions and plans.
