Work starts on a new Maternity Floor and Cardiology Department at Calderdale Royal Hospital

Published on:

Two major internal development schemes have begun at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) which will result in a new Maternity Floor and Twin Catheter lab and Cardiology Day Case Unit.

The work will take around nine months during which all services will continue to run as usual. Privacy, dignity and experience of everyone using our services is extremely important to us and our teams are here to help support those who use our services.

Twin Catheter Lab and Cardiology Day Case Unit

This work will bring our catheter labs, day case unit and Cardiology Department all in the same area of the hospital on the ground floor, improving quality of care and experience for our patients. During the work our patients will need to access the Cardiology Department via the Dermatology Department (located past the Outpatient Pharmacy and General Outpatients), signage is in place to help direct people to the new entrance.

Two new Catheter Labs at CRH will create a more efficient service and improve the overall patient experience. The labs will help streamline patient flow, reduce pressure on inpatient beds, and support faster access to procedures and investigations, enabling the cardiology team to deliver care more effectively.

Located alongside the labs, the new day case unit at CRH will allow patients undergoing planned treatments and investigations to recover in a dedicated area close to the catheter labs until they are ready for discharge. This means patients can avoid recovering on busy wards, providing a calmer and more appropriate environment.

A new maternity floor

We are bringing all our maternity services into one dedicated area of the hospital. Once complete, we will have two new dedicated theatres, neonatal and antenatal care, the labour ward and birth centre, all located in the same area of the hospital, improving quality of care and experience for women and families.

If you are coming to the Maternity Department from our Birth Centre, you will need to use Lift Block 2 and follow the signage. Otherwise, people can still reach the department from the Women’s and Children’s entrance.
