Temporary closure on Godfrey Road from Monday, 26th October for two weeks for essential work

Published on:

Work is progressing at pace at Calderdale Royal Hospital to get ready for construction of the new hospital building. Since early October, our construction partner, Laing O'Rourke have been undertaking work to widen the Women’s and Children’s entrance, and the former Learning Centre car park exit to create the ambulance entrance for the new Emergency Department. This will ensure that large vehicles will be able to enter the site promptly and safely during the construction phase, minimising the time they spend on Godfrey Road.

An essential part of this work is a drainage connection. Due to the size and depth of the excavation there will be a short section of Godfrey Road closed to allow this work to happen safely.

This temporary closure will be for two-weeks from Monday, 26th October to Friday, 6th November 2026.

The road closure will be on Godfrey Road between the Women and Children’s Car Park entrance and the A&E Car Park entrance to Calderdale Royal Hospital, and there will be traffic management in place. Access will be maintained for residents as much as possible throughout the temporary road closure. Please note there will be no through route.

There will be diversion routes in place for people coming to our A&E department and our Women and Children's entrance. Those coming to A&E will need to go via Skircoat Green Road and down Godfrey Road. People coming to Women and Children's will need to come via Dudwell Lane and up Godfrey Road. You can see a map below for information.

Thank you for your understanding during this essential work.
