Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT) is pleased to announce that the new multi-storey car park at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) will open at 6am on Saturday, 24th October.
When the car park opens, there will be around 800 parking spaces in total at CRH, significantly improving parking for patients, visitors and colleagues.
Chief Executive at CHFT, Rob Aitchison, said: “It is fantastic to announce the opening date for our new car park. It is a brilliant facility for our patients and visitors to CRH and will make a big difference to people using services at the hospital.
“We are opening as soon as we possibly can so that we can support our patients, visitors and colleagues with limited parking at CRH, which we recognise has been challenging. It means that people will see work continuing throughout the autumn on landscaping around the car park which will promote biodiversity.
“It’s been great to see the final touches being put on the new multi-storey in the last few weeks, especially seeing the design come to life, reflecting the rich history of Halifax with a specially designed façade.
“I would like to thank people for their patience and understanding while we have been building the new car park. It is an important step in our plans to transform our services across Calderdale and Huddersfield and means that we can soon start construction on our new hospital building at CRH.”
Sustainable travel has been at the heart of the plans, and the new car park has a large, sheltered cycle parking facility for more than 80 bikes and a free to use cycle maintenance area. The new multi-storey will also have a sheltered walkway off the A629, close to main bus stops to help people make the most of regular public transport to the hospital, which will open once the landscaping finishes in a few weeks. There are also electric vehicle chargers on every floor.
All patients and their visitors to CRH will be asked to use the new multi-storey car park which will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Patient and visitor parking is on floors 0 to 3 with staff parking on floors 4 and above. Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) will be in use which will register your number plate on arrival, just enter your car registration number at the payment machine before leaving the car park.
The new car park is a key part of the CHFT Foundations for our Future programme which is all about transforming hospital and community services, providing high-quality compassionate care for the future.
It means that construction partner for the new hospital, Laing O’Rourke, will be undertaking more activity on site ahead of building starting later this year. This means the Women’s and Children’s car park will close once the Multi-Storey Car Park opens, and the A&E car park is now for drop-offs, including maternity services, and emergency services use only. Information for women and families coming to our maternity services is available on our website.
