The new multi-storey car park (MSCP) at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH) has reached several major milestones in recent weeks as work continues towards its opening in early autumn.

A significant achievement was reached on Thursday, 6 August, when power was successfully switched on across the entire building. People passing the site may also have noticed how the external appearance of the MSCP is taking shape. The terracotta tiling on the stairwells has now been completed (pictured), the stone wall is nearing completion, and the headlight screens have been installed.

Inside the car park, block paving through the main walkway is complete and painting is underway. The photo below shows the yellow lines which mark out the pedestrian walkway.

Work has also started on the hard landscaping around the car park. This will form the foundation of the outdoor environment, with planned planting designed to enhance biodiversity and create habitats that support local wildlife.

Head of Capital, Joe Stainton, has been a key part of the MSCP project and was part of the team overseeing power on. Joe said: “In construction terms, turning the power on to a new building is a critical milestone in terms of project timelines and safety. It may seem simple but behind the scenes it is an extremely complex process, involving years of planning. Having the power successfully on means we're that step closer to opening and can start to install lighting and our EV chargers."
