This week marks the end of the enabling work on the site of the new multi-storey car park at Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH). This means the site is prepared for building work to start in the Spring.
The new car park, which is due to be finished in summer 2026, is an important milestone in Our Foundations for our Future programme.
The new multi-storey car park will serve the whole CRH site, and will be used by patients, visitors and colleagues. The car park will include some of the parking provision that will be lost due to the construction of the new clinical building along with additional space.
Once finished, the car park will give us almost 400 extra parking spaces, creating more than 800 parking spaces in total, whilst some car parking will remain in areas across the site. Included in the plans are also electric car charging points, additional blue badge spaces and cycle parking facilities.
There will also be better security with 24/7 CCTV, and some spaces will be covered to help protect against our British weather.
Deputy Chief Executive, Rob Aitchison, said “It is a fantastic milestone for our Foundations for our Future programme to be able to start building work on the next stage of our new car park. It is going to make a huge difference to our staff working at Calderdale Royal Hospital, and to our patients and visitors. It will be an exciting time over the coming year to see the build progress towards completion in 2026. Thank you to everyone for their support and understanding so far.”
Over the coming months we will share more information as the building work starts.

Below is artist impression of how the car park will look once completed. As a commitment to honouring the important heritage of the town, the design complements notable buildings which distinctly link to Halifax’s rich history and includes a specially designed façade which is in keeping with the local area.
The landscaping also makes sure that the car park has a positive impact on the local environment through promoting biodiversity in the design, including a significant increase in hedgerows and habitats for wildlife to thrive.
The new multi-storey car park is part of the Foundations for our Future programme, which is our long-term vision to transform our services in Calderdale and Huddersfield.
