It's our Golden Bolt Day! One year on site at HRI A&E

Today we’re celebrating a landmark moment in the history of the new A&E at HRI – it’s one year since digging began and all eyes are on now on the opening later this year.

Our CEO Brendan Brown joined some of the construction teams and some of our the clinical colleagues on-site for a “Golden Bolt” ceremony. The specially-created bolt (sprayed gold for photo appeal) was installed by Brendan as part of the completion of the roof.

Brendan, said: “This a real milestone on the way to the opening of our fantastic new Emergency Department at HRI. The teams both in the Trust and in our construction partners, have worked hard to keep everything on track over the last year.

"The next few months will be focused on fitting out the interior and I, for one, am so looking forward to the opening day later this year and I know our ED colleagues are too. It’s going to be an ED to be proud of and I thank everyone who has been involved for all their hard work which has got us here today.”

Eddie Parker, from Vinci Construction, said: "It’s been a pleasure working in collaboration with CHFT on this project through the past year.”

And his colleague Jamie Graham, added: "It's special to be working on a project like this knowing what the outcome will be. It's definitely special.
